Week in Savings 2/14/10 – 2/20/10

by Gina on February 21, 2010

This has been another week of a serious lack of shopping and couponing for me. None of the deals going on at the drug stores really excited me, so I ended up having to burn through my extra bucks at a couple of CVS stores. No great savings to report, but I did purchase some items we needed with them: milk, prenatal vitamins, baby hangers, and portable laundry baskets (check out this idea on mamaslaundrytalk.com).

Here are some things that helped us save this week:

  • Scanned my CVS card at an in-store kiosk and received a $5/$15 coupon to use on my shipping trip! I used to get the $10/$50′s all the time, but haven’t gotten anything great in quite some time…
  • Received $4 back in Staples rebates
  • Received a free mousepad, t-shirt, coffee mug, and sticky notes all detailed with my blog logo from Vistaprint.com – just paid for shipping $6.93!
  • Ordered 2 FREE coffee mugs from snapfish.com with free shipping for disputing an order for a free leash they had cancelled on me. It pays to talk with customer service.
  • Received a $3 Catalina in the mail that had failed to print on one of my trips at Kroger (sent by Catalina customer service).
  • Upgraded to Firestone Gold Plan for FREE – meaning we will get free alignment checks and tire rotations among other things, and we will receive 5% in rebates for all services we pay for on a quarterly basis!
  • Took in DH’s car to firestone and used a $5 off coupon for his state inspection and a $20 off $30 purchase coupon which applied to the remainder of the bill. We ended up saving half of our over all bill! Our Firestone is great – they even take expired coupons!!!
  • Dried a load of towels over our shower bar and towel racks as opposed to running the dryer (also used homemade laundry detergent for the wash). Once it gets warm I hope to get a portable laundry drying rack and let some things dry naturally in the heat and sun on our deck!
  • Paid off our Home Depot credit card early (on no interest no payment promo, but they were not charging us properly with regards to interest, etc., so we were anxious to get home depot off the books…) with a portion of our tax refund.
  • Placed an expense report into my job in order to receive 100% tuition reimbursement on my advanced accounting class.

Week in Savings 2/7/10 – 2/13/10

by Gina on February 12, 2010

I didn’t post a week in savings recap for last week because honestly I felt like it wasn’t very exciting! We had snow the past 2 weekends back to back, hosted a super bowl party, and it was my last week in my Advanced Accounting class which meant Finals and wrapping up all of my last homework assignments. I really didn’t do any shopping, besides getting some last minute needs for the party. Not to mention, with the bad weather and being pregnant, I really didn’t feel like venturing out. Actually, it was a nice break – even better was the fact that I had no ECB’s expiring or anything else pressing to use up, so it worked out. I guess for that post I could have just said I didn’t shop at all! LOL. That is a money saving event right there!

For this past week we had a few things to report:

  • Received $6.98 in Staples Rebates
  • Received $14.99 in Jan Rite Aid Rebate
  • Received some very generous baby gifts from friends and fam. Thank you!
  • We received both the State and Federal tax refunds, the majority of which went into our Emergency Fund!
  • Completed the Rite Aid P&G rebate deal and loaded up on more diapers
  • Made homemade laundry detergent! (I don’t think I ever want to go back!)
  • Paid hospital bill early for 10% discount
  • Took a FREE breastfeeding class at the hospital

That’s all I can think of for now… on to more homework!!!
