DIY: Homemade Baby Wipes

by Gina on November 26, 2010

We just ran out of baby wipes in our house, but I am not worried because I have read a lot of articles containing recipes about making baby wipes from scratch. I haven’t tried this yet, but I am anxious to see how it goes. Here is a basic recipe that I will use.

1 roll paper towels
3 c. water
2 tbsp. baby bath soap
1 tbsp. baby oil

Cut the roll of paper towels in half, remove the tube. Put one half of the in an airtight container with the mixture. Invert for 15 minutes. Pull wipes from center.

Have you ever made your own baby wipes? How did it go?

I will try and report back how this works after I make up a batch!

Edit: This worked great!!! I highly recommend trying this recipe!

If you go to the Medco Health Store you can get $20 worth of product absolutely FREE!!! In two separate transactions you can use the codes FIRST10 and then TENOFF to make a $10+ purchase and recieve $10 off! Shipping is only $0.99!

I have been wanting to try making my own baby wipes since I am shocked at how quickly we seem to be plowing through them…so in one transaction I purchased a 6pk of Scott paper towels for $10.99 + $0.99 shipping = $11.98 – $10.00 = $1.98.

In the second transaction I purchased a bottle of Johnson’s baby oil and a bottle of Aveeno baby wash $5.49 + $5.49 + $0.99 = $11.97 – $10.00 = $1.97.

Here is the recipe for homemade baby wipes:

You will need:

  • 10 cup container (ex: rubbermaid, w/lid)
  • 1/2 roll of Bounty paper towels
  • 2 tbls of baby oil
  • 2 tbls of baby bath
  • 2 cups of water

Cut roll of paper towells in half, remove center cardboard, mix liquid ingredients, pour on top of paper towels, pull first towel up. Each roll of towels makes 2 containers of wipes.

So…for $3.95, I will be able to make 12 packs of wipes!!! Sweet!
